We live in an era where the mobile phone is an indispensable part of our existence, but candidates are still more difficult to reach by phone. One of the reasons for this is that candidates find it much easier to communicate with a simple WhatsApp message.

Imagine: you are in the supermarket or gym and you get a call. This comes at an inopportune time for the candidate and that is why they do not answer. A WhatsApp message, on the other hand, is much simpler and faster. Candidates experience a much lower threshold to contact you as a recruiter and they respond when they have the time. Then you might be thinking to yourself, “What about the voicemail?” But voicemails are also being listened to less and less because they are experienced as annoying.

And then we haven’t even mentioned that candidates find it increasingly scary to call. This generally applies mainly to young people, but certainly also to older candidates. We may have already given it away, but how do candidates like to be approached?

Speaking to someone on the phone is therefore increasingly experienced as scary, but WhatsApp is the solution. So the key question is: how can you use this in your recruitment process?
